Jesus took the man who was deaf and could hardly speak aside, away from the crowd. With a deep sigh, he said, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened!” At this, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he spoke clearly. (Mark 7:31-37)

Brother John
Unwavering Faith

If faith is a gift from God, why is it almost always seen as the result of human achievement? Where does this gift come from? Why do some people possess it and others do not?
This booklet is an attempt to answer these questions by examining the biblical vocabulary of faith. We discover that faith is first and foremost a quality of God: his firmness, his reliability, which awakens in us an attitude of trust. He is at once the unshakable rock and the building of a house upon that rock. And in Jesus, the faithful witness, these two sides of faith are expressed in an exemplary way.

The Taizé booklets seek to open up paths to the essential sources of faith. Based on the experiences of the meetings of young people around the community, they look at the crucial questions of Christians today.
