Klaus Hamburger: Thank you, Brother Roger
- Order number: ubT-10
Personal memories of the founder of Taizé On 20 August 1940, Roger Schutz, a young evangelical theologian from Switzerland, arrived in the small town of Taizé in Burgundy. He had been seriously ill for a long time and had a dream: to bring the love of God to people and to found a Christian brotherhood. Today the community has about 100 brothers from more than 30 countries. From the beginning, Taizé has had a special charisma. Since the 1970s, the brothers have organized large meetings for young people. Millions of people know the 'Nights of Lights' and the songs of Taizé.
With this book, Klaus Hamburger expresses his personal gratitude to Brother Roger - and probably speaks from the heart of many. In his descriptions, it becomes clear what a special person the founder of the Taizé community was: someone who could infect others with his enthusiasm and yet was himself always in doubt and questioning. A lonely man with a sense of community. A seeker of God who prayed three times a day. A lover who was wounded to the core.
With numerous photos and sketches.
"On a tour of France, we stumbled into Taizé. My friend said, 'Be careful, if you shake hands with them, you'll be missing two fingers.' I was just 18 years old. It grabbed me and didn't let go. Some time later, I joined the community of brothers as Brother Wolfgang. I learned in Taizé that God is love. He does not ask: Can you do anything? God asks: Do you love me?"
